He's back! Again. But how?

Image
Are you trying to figure out what the hell the new Terminator Genisys movie plot is about, and in the process tying your noodle up in knots? Then worry no more. My clear and simple graphic explains all. Erm, okay, it's not immediately clear, and it's not that simple... but it is easier to understand than reading a slab of text about it! (Click the image to enlarge) The hi-res graphic is available to download from Graphic News .

Marvel's Cinematic Universe...

I had fun putting this bad boy together, giggling away as I thought about getting paid for drawing superheroes! (Click to enlarge) As ever, the hi-res files are available to download from Graphic News here .

So the Shroud of Turin might be real after all!

Image
I've had fun working on this for a few days. I had no idea that a couple of years ago they'd carbon dated it again and found it was from the era of Jesus. The Shroud goes on public display in Turin for 10 weeks from April 19. (Click to enlarge) As an aside, there is a very good Shroud app for iPad. I used it for this graphic and it was really useful. It's packed full of really interesting nuggets of info (albeit badly translated from Italian into English). You can download it  here . Graphic News subscribers can download hi-res versions of this graphic here .

Tomb builder...

Image
Greek authorities say that human bones found in a plundered tomb dating from the era of Alexander the Great belong to at least five individuals, including an elderly woman and a baby. Scroll down to view my finished infographic, and on the way, see how the tomb cut-away drawing was created  (images can be clicked and enlarged) . Graphic is available to download from GRAPHIC NEWS , and is featured on the  Technical Illustrators website.

A spate of technology graphics...

Image
It's been a busy month this June, one which saw me work on a higher than average number of science/technology stories for Graphic News – in particular the top three were done in the previous week alone. I love doing graphics like these. First published June 27, 2014. Original can be found here . First published June 26, 2014. Original can be found here . First published June 19, 2014. Skylab 40th anniversary...

Image
(click to enlarge) America's first space station, Skylab , was launched 40 years ago on May 14. Remembered mostly for crashing into Australia in the summer of 1979, it arguably allowed NASA to make most of its blunders there and then and not on the current International Space Station . For Graphic News , I've created an HTML5 interactive graphic (tablet and smartphone friendly) that recounts what it was and what went wrong. It'll only be available to see by non-subscribers in this way for about 10 days, so click this link now if you'd like to see it: SKYLAB INTERACTIVE GRAPHIC You'll be taken to a web page that looks something like this. (click to enlarge) Hit the Play  button on the May 14: 40th anniversary of Skylab launch  link and it'll open up.

Doom and gloom...

(Click to enlarge) Check out my Rolling Stones 50th anniversary HTML5 interactive graphic, complete with studio album discography, band member history, photo gallery, and samples of their first single Come On and new single Doom And Gloom . Did I squeeze enough into 800 x 600 pixels?! (Click to enlarge) I think it's my most ambitious non-Flash interactive graphic yet (I used  Adobe Edge Animate ) and has been a labour of love for several days. You can view it by following THIS LINK and pressing the Play button (shown in the red circle below). (Click to enlarge) The Rolling Stones new album GRRR! , is out on Monday, November 12.

The name's Animate, Edge Animate...

Image
I enjoyed some geeky fun this week building a James Bond interactive graphic for work. We've been dabbling with Adobe Edge Animate for a few months now, trying to get our heads around a slightly different approach to web animation. For non-nerds, Edge lets you make animations (that work on PCs as well as iPhones, iPads etc.) that are not built in the rapidly fading  Flash  application. (Click to enlarge) My interactive looks at where Bond's missions have taken him around the world in 23 movies and will be available on the front page of Graphic News' website for a few days, as we near the 50th anniversary of James Bond and the release of  Skyfall . (Click to enlarge) On the Graphic News website , click on the  "50 years of James Bond" heading and then the  "MOVIES: James Bond film locations iGraphic"  link  (1) , followed by the  "Play"   button  (2)  on the right. Tabloid fun!

Image
I was gathering foreign newspaper clippings of my widely used Graphic News iPhone 5 graphic yesterday, when I came across this blinder from Blesk in the Czech Republic (it makes The Sun look a little reserved). Great to see it competing for the attention of readers against soft porn on Page 1 though ;) (Click to enlarge... ooh, matron!)
